CASBA is a Straw Think Tank, a Trade Support Organization, an Open-Source Incubator, and a Community of Practice.
We are an all-volunteer non-profit organization committed to building with straw. Our members are people interested in and/or dedicated to straw building — including owner-builders, architects, engineers, and contractors.

Why straw?
Because the built environment is in a polycrisis and straw is a polysolution.
As a building material, straw is:
- Biodegradable & nontoxic
- Carbon-storing
- Annually renewable
- A by-product of grain production, making efficient use of land
- Able to support regenerative land management through sourcing
- Good insulation
- Accessible to non-traditional builders
- Suited to local and bioregional supply chains
